The terms Hazard and Risk are often used interchangeably but this simple example explains the difference between the two. A physical hazard may be in the form of excessive noise, coldness, over-heating or radiation. Workers may also be affected by ergonomic hazards, such as those posed by body positioning and repetitive strain when performing one'd duties. Such psychological hazards as anxiety are also included as workplace health hazards. Definition - What does Hazard mean? A hazard, in the context of occupational health and safety, is a situation that represents a level of threat to health, life, property, or the environment. A hazard is generally considered dormant, or potential, when it only represents a theoretical risk of harm. A health hazard, within the context of occupational health and safety, refers to any chemical or substance for which there is adequate research or statistical evidence to suggest that it can trigger health effects in those who are exposed. These effects may be acute or chronic. We can define hazard as a cause or source of potential loss/danger. Hazard can be a situation or an object that may cause harm to personnel or property if handled improperly. If a person is working on height there is hazard of fall that could lead to death or injury.
