Hi,
Please bear with me as this is kinda long post and I am in need of some useful suggestions from you guys. I also want to get my frustration off the chest by sharing it here.
I completed my Masters in Software Engineering with focus in Automobiles from Germany and just got placed on job where I work for software tool support. I am not a developer who works on back end or front end but rather just someone who gives support to clients based on software tool from one of the major MNC here. I always wanted to do some creative web development stuff but due to main study focus on Automobiles and practical experience gained mostly in Python and C++, my CV never attracted any IT based companies here who would give me job in web development. Had it been India, I could have easily started with fresher job in this domain.
I am total beginner at JavaScript and have no prior experience of working on projects. During bachelors me and my friend used to play a lot with building websites using Wordpress as a hobby. From that point I had a deep inclination towards web-development but some choices were wrongly made and I totally accept that my research lacked and I didn't took it more seriously. So, after bachelors in India I ended up doing Masters in Germany (That too my experience is now focused more on software development for Automobiles).
Firstly, I am facing grave condition on the job because sadly I have to speak German with everyone, even given the fact that I am working on project with one of the top MNC company in Germany. My German is till B1 and I can convey what I need and also understand up to decent level. However, I have been given reading task of technical documentation work in German and I feel very uncomfortable about it because after some months I will be in charge of communicating with Customers in German.
Secondly, I am all frustrated and clueless right now because in this job I am gaining no exposure at all. Its just support related work and there is really nothing at all. I believe if I continue doing this, I may ruin my future as I will gain no experience in any solid technical domain. Moreover, I am not a guy who preaches English wherever I go. I accept the fact that local citizens in Europe or Germany find it uncomfortable to speak English all the time and you must know their language. However, I find it bit foolish and depressing that these corporate giants who are generally based in approx. 10 countries also forces everyone to do all the work in only their language (speaking, Documentation and general reading and implementation), no matter even if its some programming job.
The current scene is that I will be laughed at times when I struggle hard to understand their thick accent, discuss technical concept and don't use right grammar. I too find their dumbness, lack of humor and inability to incorporate foreigners on business level totally ridiculous. On the other hand, I observed that these people respect America and American people a lot. They regularly listen to English songs, watch English TV and heck, they also have Netflix allowed in here but shitty GEMA regularly blocks YouTube videos making no sense whatsoever. Go to wine fest in certain places during Christmas and there is a high chance you will see a stage performance on English songs. Just because they were lazy in their schools to make sincere effort, they come out with "In Deutschland you should only speak Deutsche"..and yada yada bullshit. Its nerve wrecking when they give this bullshit in work places and still collaborate their businesses with different other countries outside Europe. They want to get work done from outside, but just fail miserably when it comes to providing even little bit of openness in working culture.
In last company where I worked for thesis is also a big MNC known all over the world and once there was summer-fest one year back where they gave out tickets in the form of dollar currency and had american flags shoved in every possible corner of the firm. They played some shitty English songs, organised poker games, bought roulette table and big James Bond poster in main hall welcoming you to so called "Casino Theme" party. I asked one of the organizers whether your country has no casino clubs or what? he says well, casino culture started in America and so we want to decorate everything with American theme. I just stood there wondering what the fuck they try to prove when they expect us to only speak in German even in such corporate world where educated people work. Also, such place where English culture has so much influence.
Currently my job is in small city, but there are many industries around. Job perks are good regarding timings and holidays. Weather is cloudy as shit all the time, people I see around look like completely disinterested in life and some forcefully smile when at work. No wonder they are made to forcefully speak "Danke (Thank you)" or "Tschus! (Bye)" all the time, otherwise I fear there won't be a single sign of friendliness left. Someone you find more welcoming than locals are the ones who are also foreigners. They are rather easy to talk with.
So, fast forward all frustrations and to the main point. I am interested in doing web development in future. India seems to be a ray of hope and in coming months I would also improve my skills on HTML, JavaScript and CSS. I assume that I might not earn much money in our country compared to what I get in Germany, but I want some core experience at this point which might help me in the future. I want to be in touch of recent technologies and might even want to proceed towards more management role later. Atleast I wont be forced to speak Hindi everywhere! So what would you guys suggest? Is India worth giving a shot? or maybe if some other country or trick is on your mind that you can suggest me.
Is there any/only chance of getting fresher job in our country? or I may get a position where I am paid a little more than freshers? I am in really clueless state right now.
If i decide to move in some startups in Berlin or Munich where there are no language barriers then I might require more years of hands on experience which I don't have. Cities like these have really good reviews here and there is mix population living around which makes people more open towards foreigners. But I don't understand how to get job there in Web Development as they ask for loads of experience. Countries like Belgium, Austria, Switzerland are also nice options and IMO there is language flexibility up to certain level. But I did no prior research yet about them.
